THE FOREST
Fall 2020 Installation
The goal of this installation was to transform a space; the audience was meant to feel as if they had just entered into one of my prints.
At the entrance, the trees engulfed the guests, forcing them to maneuver through the awkwardly place limbs. As they ventured deeper, the trees began to shrink in size and shift in color. At the back of The Forest, the audience was standing over a small, inches tall village.
The cold lights cast dramatic shadows on the walls, mimicking the transparency often found in my prints. This effect created a daunting experience; some referred to this as similar to something spiritual, while others felt an overwhelming eerie feeling.
PLACE SETTING
Thesis Exhibition 2021
The dinner table has become a common theme in my work, and as a spin off of one of my prints, this installation is meant to approach the viewer’s response in a different way. Place Setting, along with my prints, explores the concepts of community and absence. I use the table as it is easily recognized and has a connection to community. By taking away a place setting, or a chair – as is done here – I explore the relationship and coexistence between loss and community.
